What is your snack policy? In first grade, students bring in their own snack every day. I always ask for healthy snacks, as we try to incorporate healthy living into our classroom. We have one snack in the morning and another time for an optional snack in the afternoon.
Here are some ideas for acceptable snacks: Fruits (fresh, canned, dried), vegetables, pretzels, crackers, cheese, applesauce, popcorn Please do not send in the following snacks with your first grader: fruit snacks, fruit roll-ups, chocolate, cookies, cake, etc. Thanks for sending your child with important 'brain food'! (Note: this is for snack only, for lunch you may send whatever you wish.) |

May students have water bottles in class?
YES! We do not have a sink or drinking fountain in our classroom. Water bottles eliminate the need for students having to leave the classroom for their necessary water breaks. I do my best to remind kids to bring their water bottles home on Fridays so they can be washed. Thank you for considering bringing in a water bottle.
Where should gym shoes go?
Please make sure your child has clean shoes to use on Monday and Thursday for physical education. These shoes do not need to be new, but can be an extra pair of tie/velcro shoes in which the sole has been cleaned. We want to protect our nice gym floor. Shoes stay in their lockers and do not need to go home every day.
May kids bring in special seating?
Yes! If you or your child would like to try having an exercise ball in class, he/she is welcome to try it out. Not all students need a ball to sit on. In fact for many, a ball is not needed and becomes a distraction to that child. You know your child. If you would like to try this in class, make sure your child sits on the ball at home and you teach them at home about how to sit on it. That will help prevent issues from arriving in the classroom because the ball is too big or too small or simply a play toy. Thanks.
What is your birthday policy?Birthday Treats: In first grade, we do not accept edible treats to celebrate birthdays. Although we recognize the interest to celebrate a child's birthday, school is a place for learning. Birthday celebrations often interfere with learning time. If you chose for your child's birthday to be recognized, please consider donating a book in Spanish for our classroom. Other gifts (pencils, stickers, etc.) for the whole class are accepted as well.
Birthday Invitations : Please note that it is school policy that birthday invitations are not to be passed out at school unless the entire class is invited. This includes putting them in backpacks when nobody is looking. We have directories available for $3 in the office. I hope you all understand why this policy is in place. Thank you for your cooperation. |

What is Terracycle?Terracycle is another way we can recycle and help our environment. It is a company that takes what is normally trash and up cycle’s it. They make benches, spray bottles, bags, etc. We send in these items and get money back. Each year we raise more than $1000 for our school. The money is used for field trips, items in the classrooms, etc. Below you will find a list of items we can Terracycle. The green containers for YOUR recycled items are in the front hallway.
Families are asked to separate and put their recycling in the proper bins when dropping them off at school. |
